Choose Your Frosting Style
At Sift, our signature frosting has always been rich, bakery-style buttercream.
This mix introduces something new — a lighter, whipped version designed for soft, layered cakes at home.
Both work beautifully. It just depends on what you're craving.
Bakery Buttercream
Sift Signature
Best for
Cupcakes, piping, classic Sift flavor, richer finish
You'll need
- 1 pouch Sift Frosting Mix
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tbsp heavy cream
- Optional: pinch of salt
How to make it
Beat butter until pale and fluffy. Add powdered sugar and frosting mix, mixing on low until combined. Add heavy cream and whip until smooth, thick, and spreadable.
Andrea's note: This is the frosting we used at Sift for our cupcakes. It's rich, sweet, and perfect for piping or that classic bakery finish.
Whipped Frosting
Light + Modern
Best for
Layered cakes, softer texture, less sweet finish
You'll need
- 1 pouch Sift Frosting Mix
- 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
How to make it
Pour cold heavy cream into a large bowl. Sprinkle frosting mix evenly over the cream and stir briefly to combine. Beat on medium-high speed for 2–4 minutes until thick, fluffy, and smooth. Stop once it holds its shape — don't overmix.
Andrea's note: This version is lighter and less sweet than traditional buttercream. For clean layers, chill your cake for 1–2 hours before slicing.
